“The earth is my altar, the sky is my dome, mind is my garden, the heart is my home and I'm always at home. Yeah, I'm always at Om."
–Eden Ahbez ("Nature Boy")
Like Nature Boy, many Angelenos embrace a transient and ephemeral idea of home. We are constantly contextualizing, even domesticating, the unknown in hopes of making this little slice of coastline our own.
VIA Publication is a space for thinking about and through the cultural apparatus that is the city of Los Angeles. We document and archive these investigations primarily through the format of a biannual print magazine. Our intentional congregation of writers, artists, musicians, and other cultural producers with the VIA editorial board aims to step outside each of our individual disciplinary frameworks. We aim to preserve our perspective autonomous from both the mainstream and alternative cultural institutions we find ourselves rapidly assimilating with, in the hopes that we can continue to see things through fresh eyes. Intellectual curiosity in all its forms is exhibited through our pages in order to analyze the larger cultural fabric of contemporary life and recent history in Los Angeles.
